Session 1: ICH as Records of Human Lives amid the History of Migration
In this session, we will examine the major cases of migration that took place in human history, as well as the way in which intangible heritage, as symbols of cultural shifts, serve to safeguard their respective cultural identity amid the historic event of migration and take on new forms.
Session 2: The Role of ICH as a Means of Inclusive Migrant Societies
The maintenance and development of inclusive and sustainable societies requires the attention and efforts of all members of society, not just migrant communities. Session 2 will discuss the efforts and activities of the international community in helping migrants to safeguard their cultural heritage and integrate into new communities.
Special lectures
Session 3: Future Forms of Migration and the New Topographical Map of ICH
Whereas Sessions 1 and 2 will focus on the forms of intangible heritage in migrant societies in the past and the present, Session 3 will discuss the possible changes in intangible heritage for the coming era of future migration. In particular, it will introduce new points of contention that will be outlined in conjunction with social changes such as multiculturalism, transnational society, and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
Special session: Achievements and challenges of migration research and projects in Korea
This session will introduce migration research and projects which were conducted in Korea and explore the outcomes and implications of research on migration issues. Furthermore, it aims to present a meaningful opportunity to discuss migration studies with various viewpoints and aspects while salient issues for the future.
